Co-pilot becomes sick midair as crew illness reports emerge after overnight layover

The incident took place earlier this week on British Airways Flight BA276 from Hyderabad Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (HYD) to London Heathrow (LHR).
British Airways confirmed to Fox News Digital that one of its pilots became ill during the flight but said the aircraft continued safely to its destination and that the safety of the flight was never compromised.

“The welfare of our colleagues is a top priority, and we are reviewing crew accommodation in this location following some isolated reports of sickness,” the airline said.
The crew had traveled to Hyderabad on an earlier flight; it had stayed overnight there as part of their normal long-haul layover.
The pilots ate breakfast together in the hotel lounge, according to The Sun, and all of them drank bottled water provided by an outside supplier.
The outlet reported that, on the way back to London, the flight’s co-pilot was “incapacitated” and had to be put on oxygen.

The outlet also reported that two remaining pilots continued operating the aircraft but reportedly became more ill after landing in the U.K.
British Airways did not confirm those reported details when contacted by Fox News Digital.
The flight lasted about 10 hours and 30 minutes, according to FlightAware.

The incident sparked discussion online, with some users on a Reddit thread questioning how multiple pilots could become ill at the same time.
“I thought the rule was that pilots/captains cannot eat the same meal during a flight, in case one was dodgy,” one person speculated. “But it seems this was the hotel’s breakfast food [that] got them.”
“It could also be the water that’s contaminated,” another observed.

Others couldn’t resist drawing comparisons to the 1980 comedy “Airplane!,” which centers on a flight whose crew is incapacitated by food poisoning.
“Wasn’t there a movie made about this?” one person asked.
